four fave ways to up your halloween party game

every goblin and ghoul knows halloween is the most spooktacular time of year and the perfect opportunity to throw one heck of a party. Here are four of my favourite things that will up your Halloween party game.

pretty pumpkins

why not switch it up and instead of carving your pumpkin to make it look scary – get creative with it and use adhesive jewels or glitter to bling it up or grab some paint, use that glitter, and pick up a cute headband to turn your pumpkin into a unicorn (if we can do it on a cake, we can do it on a pumpkin) or find some creative materials to “dress up” up your pumpkin – you could use some gauze and construction paper to look like a mummy.

halloween is no time for bright, beautiful florals. instead, think of picking up some black roses (fake ones at the dollar store are a very budget friendly option that you can use year after year) to keep it dark. you can combine those with candles (make sure there is a lot of wax running down them, wine bottles that you have relabeled as poison, and some cotton cobwebs for a little dimension. or, better yet, turn this into an arts n’ craft project by making some creepy gravestones, and using some skulls, crows, cobwebs, orange or red light, and dark flowers that can run along the length of your table.

themed treats

baked goods are an easy way to pull your halloween themed party together. they are both pretty and delicious!  donuts, cupcakes and cookies are three examples that instantly come to mind. the donuts can be decorated as cats and the donut holes can be the mice. your cupcakes can be witch themed - think of their pointy hats, their broomsticks, or the classic image of their legs up in the air looking as though they crashed into something (you know what I mean, the striped stockings and weird “witch” shoes). or creepy crawler themed the crushed oreos on top for the dirt effect, gummy worms for the crawlers, and some tiny plastic spiders for a complete look. cookies are little easier due to the fact that they lay flat, and, you know, cookie cutters exist, so you can pretty much do whatever you want – ghosts, mummies, Frankenstein, day of the dead skulls, bats, black cats, or spiderwebs…just to name a few. for a fancier halloween get together you can glam up your treat game with glitter-ized candy apples.

creepy cocktails

you can get pretty creative with this category but some of my fave drink ideas include a witch’s brew concoction that you can serve in a punch bowl or, ideally, a caldron – whatever you do, make sure it’s a gross green colour for full effect. if your party guests are up for some shots throughout the evening you can purchase syringes (not real ones) but party themed ones put some red food dye in a vodka or gin shot and make it look like blood. you could also get creative with some jello shots. Instead of a cute umbrella in your drink, treat your guests with some on-theme drink stirrers – think eyeballs, broomsticks, of plastic spiders some to glue onto the side of a straw or that have bendable legs that can hang off the rim of the glass. it’s also fun to give your signature cocktails some halloween themed names. if your guests prefer beer over cocktails, use your pumpkin (actually, you will most likely need slash want an additional pumpkin) that can be used a cooler or better yet a keg!

Those are just a few of my favourites for Halloween. Have a question about one or all of them? Have a Halloween favourite you swear by? Let me know with a comment below!
